North Sunderland deservedly gained their first league win of the season as they overcame Corbridge in an entertaining game at Seafield Park. The home side were straight out the traps and dictated the game from the off. Time and again, their excellent approach play carved open the visitor’s defence, only for the final pass to go astray. The impressive central midfield 3 of Will Griffiths, Liam Douglas and Findlay Cross were in total control and were able to feed the front line. Jos Wilson narrowly shot wide following great work down the right wing from Liam Douglas and Will Griffiths also fired wide when well placed. Their pressure did not result in goals and it was 0-0 at half time. Corbridge did up their game in the second half and it became more of a contest. The back 3 of Sam Hall, Zach Watson and James Wright were all tested as the visitors gained confidence. North Sunderland continued to play their passing game and were rewarded when a Tom Storey effort was handled in the area and Tom himself fired in the resulting penalty. Recent signing Koen Ross tested the visitor’s ‘keeper from a free kick and Rory Davidson narrowly headed over from another Ross free-kick. The pressure was finally rewarded when Liam Douglas burst into the area and was brought down when sure to score. Tom Storey calmly sent the ‘keeper the wrong way from the spot to make it 2-0. The home side then lost concentration and allowed Corbridge back into the game. They were indebted to ‘keeper James Southwood who saved a number of Corbridge efforts. The visitors then scored from the spot when their centre forward was brought down in the area, leaving a nervy last few minutes for North Sunderland who saw it through to gain the win. A good win for the home side who had impressive performances from the central 3 midfield players and man of the match, 2 goal Tom Storey who was excellent at right wing back. A feisty encounter was well controlled again by Mick Hornsby. Team: James Southwood, Tom Storey, James Wright, Sam Hall, Zach Watson, Charlie Elliot, Liam Douglas, Will Griffiths, Findlay Cross, Rory Davidson, Jos Wilson, Alfie Purves, Jack Heston, Robbie Swordy, Koen Ross, Ellis Bell.
