North Sunderland bowed out of the County Cup at the hands of Premier League side Newcastle City at Monkseaton High School. The first 20 minutes of the game were very even and North Sunderland more than matched their hosts. Jos Wilson had a shot well saved before James Southwood produced 2 outstanding saves to keep it 0-0, but he was unable to keep out a looping, long range effort as City went 1-0 up. Rory Davidson then outpaced the home defence and looked sure to score but hit the inside of the post. It was 2-0 shortly after from a direct free kick. The game was effectively over just after half time when City reacted first to deflections in the box. North Sunderland continued to battle and came more into the game, without ever really threatening the City goal. City headed a soft fourth following poor marking from a corner. A reasonable performance from North Sunderland who didn’t quite perform to their best against a decent side side 3 divisions above. Best on the day were central defenders Findlay Cross, James Wright and Man of the Match Sam Hall. Team: James Southwood, James Wright, Sam Hall, Zach Watson, Tom Storey, Liam Douglas, Koen Ross, Charlie Elliot, Jos Wilson, Rory Davidson, Jack Heston, Alfie Purves, Will Griffiths, Robbie Swordy. Next game; Away to Forest Hall in the League Cup.
