22 Sep 19 Match Report: Ellington U15s 1-1 North Sunderland U15s. North Sunderland travelled to the excellent Stobswood Welfare pitch to face Ellington and came away with a hard earned point in a game they dominated for long periods. From the word go, North Sunderland took the game to Ellington and carved open their defence. Will Griffiths, Tom Storey, Jos Wilson and Alfie Purves dictated midfield and the only thing lacking was composure in front of goal as chance after chance went begging. 4 consecutive corners all produced goal line scrambles but the home goal led a charmed life. The second half was a more even contest as Ellington found their feet. North Sunderland then went ahead through a tremendous Rory Davidson strike into the top corner from 30 yards. The lead was short lived as the away side went to sleep from a free kick and the centre forward rose unchallenged to head home. The game could then have went either way as chances were missed at both ends. There was a feisty edge to the final stages as both sides strived for the win. A decent performance from North Sunderland who will hope to convert their approach play into goals at home to North Shields on Sunday. Best on the day were Sam Hall and Ellis Bell in defence and man of the match Will Griffiths who was excellent in central midfield. Well done to Jack Heston and Zach Watson who covered in goal for the injured James Southwood. Team: Jack Heston, Ellis Bell, Zach Watson, Charlie Elliot, Jos Wilson, Tom Strorey, Alfie Purves, Robbie Swordy, Rory Davidson, James Southwood, Sam Hall and Will Griffiths
